British MPs have expressed concern about the future of the BBC World Service after its funding transfers on Tuesday from a government grant to financing from licence fee paid by domestic television users. The Foreign Affairs Committee said it had clear differences with the BBC how the World Service should be governed; it regretted that the BBC had moved from a position where the Director of the World Service was a very senior person within the organisation, to one where the World Service had no direct voice on the Executive or Management board. The MPs did however welcome the undertaking by the BBC to maintain the budget of the World Service in 2014-2015.
