British history week 4: This week we spent our session researching and piecing together the Norman line of the monarchy from William the Conqueror to King Stephen. In between these two, we found out that most of the important women seem to be called Matilda and that not all heirs carried on the same work as their predecessors. We learnt about possible assassination, sibling rivalry, an almost first Queen of England, the joining of Scotland and England and all the other duplicities and corruption that can come about when power is sought. However, there also came about the Feudal system, the first census which lead to structure and new administrations that were all part of the Norman line of rule. From this research, the students then undertook their own personal look at their family lines in order to create a family tree to relate back to the class next week.
