British Invasion: militaryaviationmuseum.org/Wings_Wheels_2014.html The Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA), Tidewater Region will host its 41st-annual meet at the Military Aviation Museum, from 8:00am to 3:00pm, 27 September, 2014. Before The Beatles it was sports cars. The thousands of Americans who served in the UK during WWII kindled a love affair with British motoring that has continued to this day. Following the end of hostilities, in an attempt to revive their flagging industry, the British adopted a philosophy of, export or die. Eventually, dozens of different cars would wade ashore at the Port of Manhattan, for the New York International Auto Show. Included among them was the Triumph TR2 built by the Standard Motor Company. This car evolved quickly into the TR3, which would remain in production from 1955 to 1962. The TR3 is a true roadster -- designed for sunny weather -- with a convertible top that snaps into place, and removable side curtains. The Triumph TR3 was among the first production cars equipped from the factory with standard disc brakes. You can explore further the minutiae of British motorcars and more at the upcoming Wings & Wheels car show. Click above or telephone 757-721-7767 with questions. Spectator parking is $15.00 per vehicle. This image appears courtesy of Mr. Art Norfolk.
