(Bud) Selig was officially elected as the ninth Commissioner in the history of Major League Baseball on July 9, 1998, after guiding the National Pastime since September 9, 1992. Selig has led Major League Baseball to unprecedented labor peace and record levels of attendance, business success and social responsibility. His vision reformed the sport’s economic structure and rejuvenated competitive balance throughout the game. Selig has modernized baseball in numerous ways, including through the expanded postseason and interleague play. During Selig’s tenure, MLB has maintained longtime partnerships with Fox Sports, ESPN, Turner Sports, SiriusXM and other rightsholders. Selig has expanded MLB’s reach through groundbreaking steps in the sports world. On January 1, 2009, MLB Network launched with the largest debut in cable television history. MLB Network is the sport’s year-round home for comprehensive–and editorially independent–baseball news and analysis. MLB Network, a winner of 17 Sports Emmy Awards, has continued MLB’s seamless transition to the new media age. Under Selig’s direction in January 2000, MLB centralized all of the sport’s Internet rights under MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM). MLBAM’s industry-leading advances in the interactive space have not only made it a model 21st Century digital media company, but also one of the sport’s greatest successes. Selig, the founder of the Milwaukee Brewers and the club’s President for nearly three decades, is a supporter and lecturer at both his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Marquette University. Bud and his wife, Sue, have three daughters and five granddaughters. The 24th Annual Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame--recognized as the leading industry event honoring the pioneers, innovators and stars of the electronic arts--will be celebrated at New Yorks Waldorf Astoria on Monday, October 20, with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. and a formal dinner at 6:30 p.m.
