Broadcasting Commission Media Statement Island-wide Broadcast Coverage - CVM Television Further to active regulatory oversight by the Broadcasting Commission, CVM Television has reported that it has now taken additional measures to upgrade its signals both directly to homes and via a network of local cable providers, in order to enhance the stations coverage in the areas affected by poor quality reception. The Commission has been in active dialogue with CVM over a period of two years, culminating in a more recent series of meetings on coverage quality leading up to the start of the FIFA World Cup on Thursday of this week. In its latest regulatory report to the Broadcasting Commission last week Friday (June 6, 2014), CVM advised that it had carried out a range of corrective actions including realignment of transmission antennae, reconfiguring internal systems and providing satellite decoders to a number of cable companies across nine parishes. The cable companies which have had upgrading works are: Astra Technology, Inntech Communications, Wilson Enterprises (Portland), St. Thomas Cable, Summit Satellite (St.Thomas), Direct Cable, Linscom Network (St. Catherine), Marimaxx Communications, Tru-Star Cable (St. Elizabeth), Odyssey Cable, Star Cable (St. Ann), CTL Limited, Quality Cable (St. Andrew) Cable One Ja Limited (St. Mary), Cornwall Communications (St. James) and Venus Cable (Clarendon). As it relates to direct signals, CVM TV reported that it had increased power by installing Field Effect Transistors (FETs) and had increased antenna heights in Eastern Portland which should yield improved coverage in Priestman’s River, Commodore, Fair Prospect, Manchioneal and surrounding communities. CVM remains under regulatory review, with a summary report to be presented to a meeting of the Commission after the FIFA World Cup Championships.
