Bronx veterans’ stories are getting a spotlight. The Bronx Museum of the Arts is currently hosting an exhibit featuring 10 portraits of veterans by Brooklyn-based but Bronx-born artist Nina Talbot. WNYC Radio Talbot said the goal of the project is to bridge the veteran-civilian gap, and to tell the stories and experiences of the city’s veterans. “My hope is for more people to be aware of what these people have gone through,” she said. People often don’t realize how many veterans they encounter in their lives, she noted, or the effects of their experiences. Talbot acknowledged her own ignorance of veterans’ experiences while growing up during the Vietnam War until she began the project.
