Brookings Doha Center- Foreign Policy Internship Web: brookings.edu NOTE: This internship is based in Doha, Qatar. Summer internships are full-time (35 to 40 hours per week), while Spring and Fall internships require a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week. (Scheduling is flexible.) Office hours of the Brookings Doha Center (BDC) often require an evening segment for coordination with the Brookings Washington office, events, and other purposes. For liability reasons and due to Qatari immigration regulations, the BDC is unable to hire interns not already resident in Qatar. Internships are unpaid, and the BDC will not pay for any international travel or accommodation in Doha. The BDC will pay up to QR 700 per month to facilitate local transportation. BASIC FUNCTION Foreign Policy Program Brookings Doha Center Foreign Policy Internship About the Brookings Doha Center Based in Qatar, the Brookings Doha Center (BDC) is an initiative of the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., that advances high-quality, independent policy analysis and research on the Middle East. The Center maintains a reputation for policy impact and cutting-edge, field-oriented research on socioeconomic and geopolitical issues facing the broader Middle East, including relations with the United States. Open to a broad range of views, the Brookings Doha Center is a hub for Brookings scholarship in the region. In pursuing its mission, the Brookings Doha Center undertakes research and programming that engages elements of business, government, civil society, the media, and academia on key public policy issues in the following four core areas: - Democratization, political reform and public policy; - Middle East relations with emerging Asian nations, including on the geopolitics and economies of energy; - Conflict and peace processes in the region; - Educational, institutional, and political reform in the Gulf countries. Current Opportunity The Brookings Doha Center (BDC) is seeking full- or part-time interns on a rolling basis to assist scholars and research staff with the following tasks: - Research and collect data on a variety of policy issues. - Work with research staff to collect and analyze information; review and assemble relevant literature materials, including press reports, publications, government data, documents, and reports from a wide variety of sources. - Monitor and summarize current developments in relevant research areas. - Assist with organizing events or providing administrative support as needed. Qualifications The Center seeks candidates with a demonstrated interest in Middle East politics and/or U.S. foreign policy in the region. Both undergraduates and graduate students in Middle East studies or international affairs are encouraged to apply. A strong academic background, excellent writing and research skills, and knowledge of Arabic are highly desirable.
