Brooklands College Beauty Students organise charity event Brooklands College students were delighted to receive a £300 donation, to add to the £600 they raised at their Breast Cancer Awareness charity event. NVQ Level 3, Beauty Therapy Students at the Ashford Campus organised the ‘Ladies Day’ event at Ashford Congregational Church, as part of their ‘contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities’ coursework. Jenny Gregory owns ‘Just Feet’ a local business, attends the Ashford Congregational Church, and worked with the students to put on the event. Jenny said “I am pleased to donate 10% of my business income to charity. I enjoyed the fundraising evening the students organised so professionally. It was brilliant, they thought of everything from the floor plan to the invitations, and I am happy that my donation of £300 takes their total money raised to £900, which is even more than last year!” Over 100 local people attended, and enjoyed a selection of 20 minute beauty treatments for just £5. Students gave mini manicures, mini pedicures, Indian head massages, back massages and mini facials. Student Anna Wilmott, 17 from Addlestone said “There was a great atmosphere. I took along 12 friends and am pleased to have passed this piece of our coursework, by arranging this event”. Students made and served ‘Mocktails’, tea and coffee and the donations for these refreshments also added towards the total £600 raised on the night. Louise Johnstone-Watts, Lecturer in Beauty Therapy at Brooklands College said “I was so proud of the students, they did a great job, and they really worked very hard. Their teamwork to organise the events was very impressive”.
