Brothers, This email is intended to provide alumni with an update on our current housing status, alumni operations, and undergrad goals. First and foremost I’d like to thank those members on the Alumni E-board and several strong contributors for their time and efforts. Brothers Lee Spell, Nick Causey, Eric Ross, Jay Williams, Scott Morrow, Blake Van Marter, Andrew Watson, and Greg Tolbert have really been amazing for donating their time and resources. In a few short months there has been significant work put in place to have an active alumni association with our main goals of rekindling the brotherhood among alumni as well as supporting and guiding the active undergraduate chapter. Additionally I want to thank the following brothers for their contributions towards our donations campaign. Brothers Chris Haase, Chris Yost, Jay Williams, Nick Causey, Justin Whealen, Jared Goldman, Pete Szarowicz, Jermey Salem, Casey Meehan, Marcos Rosado, John Garcia, Chris Owens, Jerald Sirmans, Andrew Watson, Justin Carlough, Eric Ross, Chris Pruitt, and Robert Pollard we thank you for their very generous donations. In a short time we have recouped the housing association funds back to over $14700.00, and it continues to grow back. On the status of Greek housing, UNF has been forced to delay the project indefinitely due to the lack of sorority involvement/participation. There was contractual language that the sororities disagreed with and would not support UNF. This is a blessing in disguise. It gives us more time to prepare the active undergraduates and position them for success in the future. The alumni association believes this is a time to invest in the undergrads to ensure that our legacy continues forward. The undergrads were in need of a capital infusion to render a debt of over $4500 to nationals. We have gone through negotiations with nationals and they were willing to forgive $1300 of that debt. In addition to this they had no operating expenses for recruitment, events, and general chapter operations. Yes, this shows poor financial management and lack of responsibility, but this will be corrected soon. The alumni association used this opportunity to step in and finally give real guidance to a very young and small chapter. We wanted to redirect resources to clear the actives current debt and truly give them a chance at starting the rebuild of our fraternity. A loan of $4200 was offered to them with many stipulations. There are many details, but the idea is that the active chapter will pay this back over a span of two years, there will be requirements of payment, but mainly we want to put them in a position to be successful. A repayment and monitoring plan is in place. If you have any input, questions, or constructive suggestions please don’t hesitate to respond back to me. We have worked closely with the active chapter in guiding them to a successful brotherhood and bringing the Chi Phi legacy back to UNF. We are focusing on brotherhood, scholastic, financial management, recruitment, rituals, and new member education. During the summer the alumni association ran a recruitment workshop with the undergraduates. As a result of this they had one of their most successful rushes in years, 22 bids given with 18 accepted. This rush has doubled the size of our fraternity. They have their pinning ceremony this weekend on Saturday 9/14 noon at UNF. And they can always use your support and presence if you can make it. In other news, the alumni association has had a few events occur. We encourage you to reach out and participate in our brotherhood re-connect events. Currently we have Happy Hours on the final Thursdays of each month. The next one is expected to be on 9/26. Please keep an eye out for the next communication. There is also a Chi Phi golf league that has been established and continues to make efforts to play on a monthly basis. The alumni are also always looking for new ideas and events to help with reconnecting you back to the brotherhood. Some ideas that have been presented are family picnics, Chi Phi workouts, alumni vs undergrad greek cup, business networking conference and many more. Also as a save the date we are looking for a huge turnout for next years Alumni Weekend. This is expected to be April 4th - 6th tentatively. Please let me know of anything you would be interested in seeing the alumni association provide. Finally we are continuing our campaign for the alumni and housing donation program. All contributions and donations can be earmarked per your request for the alumni association, housing corporation, or providing academic scholarships to the undergraduates. Please contact me for donation details. You can also continue to make donations through paypal to chiphihousingcorp@gmail. Something I have been asked frequently is, "How can I help? What can I do?" For now all I ask of you is that you care and want to give us your support emotionally. We have a long road ahead for this upstart alumni association and undergraduate chapter. Our goal is to bring a culture and brotherhood back that you can be proud to be a part of again. Remember its not only for 4 years, its 4 life!
