Bruce Sills writes on Ezra Chapter 10 Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons, for they will turn your sons away from following me to serve other gods, and the Lord’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you. Clear advice given to the exiles in Deuteronomy chapter 7. Ezra was upset with the exiles unfaithfulness. He mourned because men had married foreign women and had lost their faith in God just as the scriptures had said they would do if they married foreign women. When the men who had committed this sin came to Ezra and ask for forgiveness they offered to send their wife’s and children away to rid themselves from this sin. The unfaithful men ask to make a covenant and Ezra commanded the men who had been unfaithful to confess their sin, ask for forgiveness, and separate themselves from the peoples around you and from your foreign wives. When we confess our sins to God we are forgiven. Jesus death cleansed us from our sin. God wants us to bring our sin to him through confession and ask for forgiveness. He will wipe our sin away. But God doesn’t want it to end there. He wants us to change our behavior in an effort for the sin not to happen again. True confession is when we offer it to God and then we do our part to eliminate the sin from our life.
