Bryan Paterson changed the settings on his page so no one can post comments anymore.. So, I will post my questions here where he is unable to delete my inquiry. By doing so Mr. Paterson you said a lot about how you truly feel about those who live in Affordable Housing: Mr. Paterson, I watched your video on Affordable Housing. You mentioned a new building going up near Sir John A MacDonald Boulevard however, neglected to inform people of the four-story apartment building going up after winter at 36 Cliff Crescent, where an existing building already stands. Not only is this building going up - but it is going to be so close to the existing building a number of vegetable gardens where people have spent years on the soil, are going to be demolished. So much for trying to save money by growing our own food, huh?! As Mayor of Kingston, what are your plans for those of us living in mold, mouse infested, crime ridden, Affordable Housing buildings that are in use now? Any plans to get some tests done on the quality of life these people, such as checking the air quality and make the results public? Any concrete ideas of how to lower the crime rate in these buildings (communities), which are on top of each other. Adding another 70ish people to this one area isnt going to help one bit. ...Perhaps the city will allow us the use of 911 again??? Which is currently only for the middle and upper classes of Kingston. Thats right, if you live in Affordable Housing 911 is NOT an option. Currently, once people move out, cosmetic work on the apartments is being done, but no fixing of any real issues. Those of us who HAVE to stay long-term, are not permitted these new amenities even though there are many of us who do our best to take pride in what we have. Though we would care for new furnishings dearly, are denied them as, I can only assume, we are looked at as unintelligent and unable to care for a few new countertops. I have photos of white mold leaking in to basements townhouses where kids live with their parents in an Affordable housing community. The mold is a major issue with 36 Cliff as well as 28 Cliff. When one woman asked help with this problem from KFCH she was told she would need at LEAST 3 dehumidifier in her basement and there was no way that would be approved for her. The woman was sweeping up this white mold with no mask or tools. There is actually a paint available that would stop the water soaking in to the cement and creating this white powdery mold .Again, something as simple as paint was refused by Affordable housing and to this day the mold remains. This was a healthy 30 year old woman (at the time) who is now, after living in housing for about 10 years, on her third round of chemo already having 2 cycles of radiation. Im not saying theyre related, but I am smart enough to not deny something fishy is going on. Looking for a response on what the REAL plans are for those of us forced by Government to live in Affordable Housing due to disabilities (like myself) or whatever other circumstances you run in to here. What are you planning on doing for us living in this kind of rundown community?
