Bucket list item #27: Write a song! I was mentally running down my list of things to do before I kick that proverbial bucket recently and had to laugh as I scanned the lower twenties to find #27. I’m pretty sure since the moment God formed my ears, I’ve been a lover of music. I recalled my very first guitar…aka my sister’s old-school Wilson tennis racket…and my first piano and drumset? Pretty much anything I could air tap a tune/beat to without driving my mom crazy. In my little idiot mind, I was a musical genius! As I’ve grown older, #27 has fallen from its once superior top 10 status, partly because I don’t make the time to sit and actually do this, but mainly because I fear I will never be able to write “the perfect song”…or a good one anyway. …(enter inspiration)… I was only a few songs into my phone’s playlist when an old fave filtered through the foam and into my memory: “Lord I give my life / A living sacrifice / To reach a world in need / To be your hands and feet” [Casting Crowns – Lifesong] All of a sudden, “little idiot me” began dancing about with my odd array of make-believe instruments and I felt this affectionate tug in my spirit laughing with me, “See! We’ve been writing this song all your life. Now what verse are you and I going to write today?”…and then these two ideas beautifully morphed into life: “As you walk through life, you find that God keeps adding another verse to your song of praise. The chorus remains the same: “God’s faithful.” But the longer you live, the more verses you add.” [Jentezen Franklin – The Spirit of Python] “Hallelujah / Hallelujah / Let my lifesong sing to you” [Mark Hall – Casting Crowns] ...maybe that song isnt going to be so hard to write after all... Thank you, LORD!
