Bucks County News Officials break ground on missing I-95 link in Bucks County! A ceremonial groundbreaking was recently held in Bensalem for a massive $1.4 billion transportation initiative that will link I-95 and the PA Turnpike. Officials say it was a major oversight that the country’s main East Coast north-south highway doesn’t connect with the east-west thoroughfare that connects Pennsylvania’s largest cities, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The plans call for I-95 to travel north in Bucks County until it intersects with the PA Turnpike in Bristol Township. The section of turnpike (I-276) east of I-95 will be re-designated as I-95 and what is currently I-95 north of the turnpike will be re-designated as I-195. The authority hopes to create a certified redevelopment area to spur economic activity. Officials would identify specific areas that need help and provide a package of incentives to bolster development, including: tax incentives; small grants or loans for site improvements; and possible funding for the expansion or improvements of existing businesses in the area. The long-term process will require approval from both municipalities and proof that 51 percent of the acreage is blighted, underutilized, improperly developed, underdeveloped or vacant. Of the total, $3.6 million will provide for a final settlement with the Dalgewicz family for the 166-acre tract of land that the township condemned to build the Makefield Highlands Golf Club. In May, the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court ordered the township to pay a total of $7.5 million in principal and interest for the property. The extra money from the bond issue will be used for recreational facilities and upgrades to the township building. Source: PhillyBurbs; 7/19/2013
