Budget Bathroom Makeover Did you know that you can make over your bathroom for about $200? It’s true! While you won’t be replacing fixtures like the tub, sink and toilet for this price, you can still make a big difference in the beauty of this essential room. Start with paint. A fresh coat of paint can spruce up almost anything. You’ll need to choose a color that works with your tile, flooring and fixtures of course, but that doesn’t have to mean boring white or even neutrals. If your fixtures and flooring are already neutral, go bold with your paint color choice. If they are already colorful (think avocado green or lemon yellow), you could choose a contrasting or coordinating color, or play it safe with neutrals. Choose what makes you happiest; just make sure you buy it in an eggshell finish for easy cleaning and durability. At around $30 a gallon, paint packs a lot of punch for not a lot of cash. Switch up your hardware. Change your cabinet pulls and knobs. If you like an eclectic look, search for interesting “antique” varieties at flea markets. If you’d prefer to buy new, check out coolknobsandpulls, houseofantiquehardware, and restorationhardware. You may even be able to find some interesting ones at your local Target or home supply store. Add new accessories. Flea markets are also a great source for old or “antique” glass vases, jars, trays and the like that can be repurposed to hold your bathroom supplies. However, places such as Target and even Wal-Mart generally have a nice selection of bathroom accessories these days. Consider a basket to hold extra toilet paper and a small decorative table on which to stack towels as an alternative to the usual towel rod. Don’t forget a new shower curtain.
