Buffalo Springfield didnt last very long as a band—only two years—but it gave us two important things. First, half of the membership of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Second, For What Its Worth, otherwise known by its chorus, Stop, Children, Whats That Sound? It was a major counterculture anthem in the late 60s. Contrary to popular opinion, its not an antiwar song, but rather written about the Sunset Strip hippie riots in 1966, in which young rock show fans protested the enforcement of 10:00 PM curfews. Nonetheless, its since become an iconic song from the Vietnam War era. Tomorrow, one of the most infuriatingly catchy pop songs of the late 90s.
