Buhari should not be disqualified. Disqualifying him would amount - TopicsExpress

Buhari should not be disqualified. Disqualifying him would amount to deliberate undermining of his experience in the military which is probably of higher acceptability than university Degrees and all. Buhari however lied. He swore an affidavit (under oath) that his certificates as claimed in his application were with the Secretary of the Military Board - the Nigerian Army debunked that claim yesterday. When a poor man does this, it is called perjury Im told and carries stiff penalties under our laws. He claimed as his qualification - WASC but it is very likely that he either did not write WASC or did not have the credits he claimed that he had in his enrolment form. In his file we are told is just a letter from his principal undertaking that he would pass exams. So in 1961, why did he not back up his claims with a certificate? Is 1961 now haunting a 2015 ambition? That, and many more remain to be seen. Why do we wonder what is wrong with Nigeria? Why do we need to think hard about the non parity with developed countries, some of which are in Africa? Why do we despair and cringe at the failures all around? The foundation, political, social, economic of Nigeria is firmly crafted with deceit. I am certain that many of our political leaders, past and present have certificate flaws like the beloved General but have always beaten the system probably to become MDs of big corporations with invalid claims. Now it is not about a paper document called certificate, it is about truth, morality, transparency and honesty. Buhari without a doubt presents new hopes for change but I wish that there was a 3rd candidate. If the PDP loses these elections then Nigerians should prepare for legal battles on a matter as this but which is today easily neglected. The distraction will be sufficient for a new government and their message of change may be their undoing because we expect that the courts should dispense justice fairly and efficiently (remember that it is the primary constituency of Professor Osibajo). The press conference by the General is a welcome development and I hope that he will size the moment to solidly lay the matter to rest. The battle for winner on February the 14th is in the southwest and with undecided voters like me. We wait till 9am for him to explain why he claimed that certificates were with the Military - when they obviously were not.
