Built on the Rock having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, Ephesians 2:20 We are not built upon the Apostles and the prophets, but upon the message of the Apostles and prophets. What was their message? They all pointed to Jesus Christ. He is our foundation and the chief cornerstone. The psalmist proclaimed Jesus as the corner stone in in Psalm 118:22: The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. The message was again repeated in Matthew 21:42 and then Luke spoke of Jesus as the cornerstone in Acts 4:11: This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ He has become the completion to the building. He sets out the boundaries. The actual cornerstone sat at the bottom of the base, and the building is lined up on the cornerstone. Christ Jesus is our cornerstone. We line ourselves up before Him. He is the only One who can save us. He is the only One who can give us His grace, love and mercy. If we try to build our lives upon any other foundation then Jesus Christ, we are going to be on shaky ground. We will be on sinking sand if we build our lives upon the promises of this world. When we build upon Christ, we build upon the Rock and we will be immovable. That is where I want to be—on the Rock, Jesus Christ. Christ is the center of Christianity; all else is circumference.
