Bulgaria begins construction of Turkey border fence Bulgaria has started the construction of a barrier on its border with Turkey, according to the DPA news agency. The fence is being built in an attempt to keep illegal immigrants or refugees from Syria out, according to Korrespondent.net, and will be some 30 kilometers long upon completion. Bulgaria has been experiencing problems following the influx of refugees from the war-torn country, with many refugee reception centers overflowing beyond their 8,000 capacity. People attempting to enter the country can now only cross the border through official checkpoints. The construction of a temporary barbed wire fence began on October 7, with the replacement being started on Thursday —Russia Times
