Bulletin Announcements from 1/18/15 chamberhillumc.org CHUMC EASTER EGG MANUFACTURING COMPANY The Eggers will begin their annual ministry of candy Easter egg making on January 19th.They will work each day from 8 AM to 1 PM (at the latest) and will provide lunch, if they work until noon.The tasks include coating, dipping, and wrapping the candy eggs. Many hands are needed to make this a success, and it’s a great cure for “cabin fever” too! You dont need to have any skills to show up and help — they’ll teach you!The funds raised allow our church to make substantial contributions to missions and charities far beyond our walls. Also, anyone willing to help out with lunches should contact Shirley Eckard at 564-5329 or 561-9958. VOLUNTEER TO SERVE BREAKFAST AT GRACE UMC On the 4th Sunday of every month, we will be helping to serve breakfast to those in need of a warm meal at Grace UMC in Harrisburg. We meet in our church parking lot at 6 AM. We do not get back until after 9 AM, missing a portion of our own worship service. Sign-up sheets for the next three months are in the narthex. We need at least 7 volunteers per month. Next opportunity is Sunday, January 25. For more details, call Sheryl Strite at 561-1259. TODDLERS/PRESCHOOLERS ACTIVE PLAYGROUP MONDAY AFTERNOONS 2:30-3:30 PM Join us for games and activities geared for 2-5 year olds and their caregivers. ll burn off some energy in the gym or church lawn and do a simple craft. registration needed for this free ongoing playgroup, just drop in and have some fun! Bring your blanket, sleeping bag, or lawn chair and don’t forget to invite your family, friends and/or neighbors to join us for a night of fun and fellowship.FREE admission and popcorn. MATTHEW 28 CONSULTATION WEEKEND February 20, 21, 22 Our church is currently involved in a consultation process to help us be more effective in reaching out to our neighbors outside of the church. Nick has been attending monthly classes, and our church leadership is currently doing a self-study to learn more about our church and the neighborhood around us. The major piece of this consultation will happen on February 20, 21, and 22. Friday, a three person team consisting of our consultant, coach, and district superintendent will come and do interviews of our pastor, staff, and some leaders. will be a focus group of 12-15 people that evening. Then on Saturday, February 21st, an open session will be held from 9AM - 3PM. in the congregation is welcome to attend. who currently serve on a committee or in a ministry area are strongly encouraged to join us. will be a time of learning, and some other opportunities for feedback with our consultation team. Then on Sunday morning, February 22nd, the consultant will lead worship and at the end present us with a plan to move forward. will address particular strengths and weaknesses of our church. Well have about 4 weeks to read it and pray about it before an opportunity to vote on it at a special church conference. SECOND SUNDAY 4KIDZ Our Summer Program for kids is looking for anyone interested in helping. We offer this program one Sunday a month for two hours. The kids learn a Bible story, sing songs, make a craft and enjoy fun outdoor activities. GRACE UMC’S FREE CLOTHES CLOSET especially needs men’s casual slacks/jeans (sizes 30 thru 44), white athletic socks, men’s boxers, men’s shoes, and men’s sweaters and sweatshirts. Also, medicated foot powder. All clothing may be gently used. A collection bin is located in the narthex. SonSHINE BASKET MINISTRIES giving a few small gifts to someone who is in the hospital due to illness or an operation, or who is recouping at home. The gifts are to be opened, one each day, to encourage, uplift and strengthen that person during their healing process. The message is that someone cares about you and is praying for you. Please let us know if there is someone you may know that needs this support. Also, you can also help by donating items that you would be happy to receive if you were that person. The POWER PACK Program is in need of plastic grocery bags. Bring them to the collection bin in the narthex. We will also continue to collect peanut butter, jelly, and canned meats for this program. WOMEN OF FAITH: A STUDY OF WOMEN IN THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS.This is an exploration of the lives of the women of faith in both testaments.Each nights aim is to review their stories with an eye to their character strengths and flaws followed by open discussion and questions.There will be 8 sessions held the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, October 7 thru January 20, 2015.Class begins at 7 PM in the Phoenix classroom. JANUARY FOOD PANTRY COLLECTION Pancake Mix Pancake Syrup Peanut Butter Jelly ~Your generous giving helps needy families in our community ~ CHAMBERS HILL BELIEVERS is beginning for this coming year. Any child 3 years through 5th grade is welcome to join us. We perform the 4th Sunday of each month alternating singing and playing bells. Practice is held in the Preschool room each Sunday at 10:00 AM. ALTAR FLOWER DONATIONS Anyone interested in donating flowers for the Altar should sign the calendar (located outside the Secretary’s Office hanging on the bulletin board) on the date to be provided. Please do this at least 2 weeks prior to the date the flowers are to be provided. Also, inform Vikki as to whether the flowers were donated to the Glory of God; in Memory of a Loved One; or Celebration of a Special Occasion, i.e., birthday, anniversary, graduation, etc. MAGAZINE COLLECTION for Ronald McDonald House — Please note that the magazine recycling container located at Sam’s Club, Grayson Road, Harrisburg, has been temporarily removed due to construction. The container will be returned in the near future, but will probably be moved to another area of the parking lot which has not yet been determined. Mean-while, magazines/glossy paper may be dropped off at nearby locations: Ronald McDonald House, 745 West Governor Road, Hershey, or McDonald’s Restaurant, across from Colonial Park Mall on Route 22, Harrisburg. In the meantime, if it is inconvenient for you to place your magazines at either of these locations, you may deposit them in the container located in the Narthex; and Carl G will take them to Hershey for you. Helping the Ronald McDonald House helps families dealing with seriously ill children. Thanks for your support!
