Bullies beware! PNoy signs Anti-Bullying Law President Benigno Aquino III has already signed into law Republic Act 10627, or the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013, requiring elementary and secondary schools to adopt policies to prevent and address the acts of bullying. Under this new law, a perpetrator of campus bullying would be required to undergo a rehabilitation program to be administered by the school concerned. Parents of bullies will also be encouraged to participate in the program. The law will also require schools to educate students and their parents on the "dynamics of bullying," as well as provide mechanisms for reporting incidents of bullying and designate a school officer who would "promptly investigate" these reports, take the appropriate disciplinary administrative action if bullying is proven and notify the parents of both the perpetrator and the victim. This school officer is also expected to notify law enforcement agencies if criminal charges may be pursued against the bully. School administrators who fail to comply with the requirements of the law would be meted appropriate sanctions determined by the Department of Education.
