Burglary advice following a spate over the weekend - We are investigating burglaries in east Bham where offenders have forced their way in through UPVC doors. This is exceptionally unusual for the area where burglary rates are at their lowest in over a decade and we’re working hard to catch the person or people responsible. We have stepped up patrols and Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators have been alerted to keep their eyes peeled and report suspicions to police. House to house enquiries have been conducted and forensic tests continue. CCTV cameras which may have captured the crimes are also being trawled. We’re also asking people to bolster home security by following these simple tips: • Make sure doors and windows are locked, especially when leaving the house. • Secure your doors. Check the condition of the frames and glass panels. Fit devices such as chains and door viewers. • When you are out, leave a light, TV or radio on to give the impression that there is somebody at home. • Use your burglar alarm if you have one. • Never leave a spare key in a convenient hiding place, such as under the doormat or in a flowerpot – a burglar will look there first. • Make sure that your sheds and garages are secure. Always lock ladders and tools away to stop a burglar using them. • Join your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme. Call 101 to speak with local officers or to share information about those suspected of committing crimes in your area contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
