Bushfire ADVICE for Karijini National Park in the Shire of Ashburton Monday 5 January 2015 - 10:51 AM The following alert has been issued by the Department of Parks and Wildlife A bushfire ADVICE has been issued for Karijini National Park, 10km east of Mt Bruce and 5km south of Karijini Drive, in the Shire of Ashburton. • There is no threat to lives or homes but there is a lot of smoke in the area. • Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes. BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: • The bushfire is moving slowly in a northerly direction. • It has burnt through approximately 1000 hectares. WHAT TO DO: • Be extremely careful when driving through the area. • Turn your headlights on and drive slowly. • Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions. • If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears. • If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222. ROAD CLOSURES: Avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site. No roads are closed. RECREATION SITE CLOSURES: No recreation sites are closed. WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING: Department of Parks and Wildlife firefighters are monitoring the area and installing signage within the park to advise people of the fire and alert them to smoke in the area. EXTRA INFORMATION: • The fire was reported at 7.30am on 5 January 2015. • The cause of the fire is lightning. • The Department of Parks and Wildlife is managing the fire.
