But the most prominent difference between trans* women and drag - TopicsExpress

But the most prominent difference between trans* women and drag queens is that drag is a style of performance, while a trans* life is just that – daily life. A drag queen is a character. A trans* person is a real-life person. (That’s a sentence I never thought I’d have to write.) This is why I joke about being in drag when I wear traditionally female clothing like dresses. When I dress that way, I feel like I am playing a character, just like my sci-fi costumes. I feel like I am playing a character with a different gender identity to my own, even though I also do not identify as male, because there are more than 2 gender identities. When I wear mens clothing, similarly, I am not trying to pass, because there are more than 2 gender identities. I dont consider myself trans but I do empathize with the struggle of trans people trying to find an identity in a culture and language that was never meant to accommodate them and in trying to find acceptance for all the nuance and shades that go into ones identity.
