But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there - TopicsExpress

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. - 2 Peter 2:1-3 (NIV) When the Spiritual Awakening that many have been praying diligently for comes, one of the things the true followers of Jesus will awaken to is just how many popular false preachers and leaders have sequestered themselves within the Church. Peter plainly spoke of their main motivations as greed and exploitation. Where are the Peters of this current age to recognize and speak boldly and uncompromisingly, without fear of reprisal from anyone except The Lord? But even Peter was not always so bold. On the very Friday that Jesus was nailed to the Cross, Peter was hiding. It was only after the Resurrection and Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit that he was emboldened to speak the truth in ways that would eventually bring about his own martyrdom. Lord, reveal to us by the indwelling power of Your Holy Spirit, and give us discerning eyes and ears to recognize and accept only Your Truth. Awaken us, oh Lord!
