By George Morara Coming around! He had a year to retire! That would have been 28 solid years in power! I have no problem with the number of years anyone can rule-so long as they can show something for it! Burkinabes are some of the poorest people in Africa! But not their President- he seized power from his friend whom he killed in cold blood! All AFRICA felt the loss of Thomas Sankara- one of Africas BESTEST leaders in recent times! It was premature and all the visionary policies he had implemented were chucked into oblivion almost overnight! Blaise Campaore began a reign of terror in Ouagadougou- Upper Volta, killing whoever opposed his greed and squander! He enriched himself and his family at the expense of his people! He supported every rogue neighbour as they consolidated an iron grip on power in Central West Africa! As Parliament deliberated moving the goal post for Campaore to stay longer, the people finally had enough and made a point to clarify it to Mr President that THEY were in charge! When Parliament was onfire, Campaore began to negotiate. Its unlikely he can even finish the current term. His 4th! Never mind another term. Before sunset, smoke was seen above the luxurious Presidential palace! The day of reckoning came so quick! Its a shame that African leaders wont retire peacefully. You suddenly realise that one family owns this and that and that and that. Under Kenyatta money amounting to billions of dollars, land the size of Austria somehow got to belong to one family. Banks, large businesses- all traced to just one family! Under Moi, a thousand companies were traced to his sons only! In Kenya, 25% of the choicest most fertile land belongs to just 3 families. Politicians, colonial settlers - all amounting to less than 10 percent of the population own more than 90 of the resources and countrys wealth! Kenyas ruling class is a dynasty-a family affair. The same faces from independence have kept the people chocked in poverty, corruption, bad governance and impunity! Squandering inappropriately withot regard for others! The People of Burkina Faso are a perfect demonstrative example in sub-Saharan Africa of the power of The People! Kenya would have stolen the show in July but Mr President issued a shoot to kill ultimatum prompting a change of plan by the opposition to avert any loss of life! The people were ready to die in sacrifice to change the situation! 15,000 troops armed to the teeth were scrambled to guard Mr Kenyatta whose pants were already wet! At the slightest provocation, thered have been a massacre! In [Upper Volta] Bukina Faso , the armed forces are reported to have joined the masses. Its a huge change of culture! Mr Kenyatta knows that too well and has streamlined the military into a tribal club- retiring younger officers while retaining elderly potbellied tribesmen by his side! Mr Kenyattas father ruled Kenya until he dropped. Then Mr Moi- greedy selfish people who cared little even for their own people whom they used as toilet paper! KENYANS and in fact all Africans must watch The Burkinabes with interest. Too many Sankaras killed to pave way for greed, gluttony, and plunder! Not long ago Mr Kenyatta declared hed rule for 10 years- then pass on the mantle to his deputy for another 10 years. Of course he didnt really mean hed actually pass on the mantle! Mr Ruto is not guaranteed....but then who is?! There comes a time when the people cannot take it anymore! If you collapse in the street in Europe, medical aid will arrive on average within 10 minutes. Our presidents only travel to die in Europe seeking this very care that they have failed to effortlessly offer the people! Every child in Europe is accounted for- cared for, provided for and educated. The governments take FULL responsibility. Across Africa, youd be lucky to be born, to see your first, 5th, 10th birthdays...lucky to go to school! Infrastructure! Look at us in Kenya - still struggling to maintain the Railway line built by colonialists...there are places in our country youd never reach because Mr president embezzled funds meant for development. Food security- the most fertile land has been sold off - the poor are dependent of contaminated handouts from the west! In every aspect we in Africa are lagging behind. Yet we are the richest! And therefore its right that the current crop of inept, impotent, corrupt, spent and totally useless leaders MUST go! Let me hasten to remind our brethren in Upper Volta that we remember Sankara very well! Just as I do Machel. And Garang.. And many more...And Before them Mboya, Nkurumah and Lumumba! Our inspiration is rekindled. Campaore is a nauseating memory of Mobutu Sese Seko, of Kenyatta and the like ....what would have been in Burkina Faso, The Congo, and Africa at large. The Burkinabes did it alone! No French troops helping install their puppets- no NATO to flatten the place back to stone age! In fact any Parliament that passes or even wishes to pass bad laws, should be burnt down! Let this message ring clear to Mswati, to Obiang, from Biya to Dos Santos; from Museveni to Déby; from Afwerki to Nguesso..from Kabila to Kagame! And yes, from Bashir to Kiir to Kenyatta! And to all of you whove outlived any usefulness to our people! With the conditions prevailing, I am feeling inspired! Not long now! Should Senegal grant asylum to Mr Campaore, thatd be tantamount to a declaration of war against The a People of Africa! What goes round, comes around! I say good riddance Monsieur président! Unl
