By: John Bush In the wake of yet another Austin police officer killing an unarmed black man, Austinites are calling for police chief art acevedo to be fired. Last Friday, Detective Charles Kleinert shot and killed 32 year old Larry Eugene Jackson Jr. who was allegedly acting suspicious during an investigation in to a bank robbery that had just occurred. During the investigation, Jackson approached the bank and tried to enter the closed building. Officer’s claim that after being difficult during questioning, Jackson began to run from the officer who was interviewing him. Detective Kleinert pursued Jackson, going so far as to get a ride from a civillian who was driving downtown in order to catch up. APD then claims there was a struggle after which Kleinart shot Jackson in the back of the neck. Activists are calling this incident more of the same and are placing blame on the shoulder of Police Chief Art Acevedo for consistently failing to hold officers accountable for the shooting deaths of unarmed men and youth in Austin. Actions are being organized for Tuesday including a rally at city hall at 9 AM at City Hall during a budget hearing calling on council member to budget out Acevedo followed by a 5:30 rally at APD headquarters calling for Acevedo’s ouster. thelibertybeat/activist-call-for-austin-police-chief-art-acevedo-to-be-fired-after-another-unarmed-black-man-is-killed-by-apd/
