By: Karen Olson Take a step back in time by coming to the Museum on the Square during the month of December. There are several exhibits of special Christmas items on loan by Mason families. The front two windows each have a Christmas tree with items loaned by Bobbye Frazier and the Bierschwale-Larrimore Family. Last Friday, December 5th, Bruce Petty and his nephew, Wade Petty, shown in the accompanying photograph, were in town for the weekend, heading to the deer lease. They made a stop at the Museum so that Wade, who is from Tampa, Florida, could learn a little about the area he is hunting in. They took a few minutes to enjoy the Christmas items that are on loan from the Shearer Family. Wilburn and Fayes daughter, Pam Spiller, has shared these special items with the Museum to honor her parents and her love for all things Christmas. Some of these items are antiques, some are vintage, but all evoke those heartwarming memories of the holiday season. The large Santas face is made from paper mache as is the reindeer figure. There is a kissing ball filled with greenery to symbolize mistletoe. The Snow Village is very old and very fragile and features churches which could be lighted. The string of beads intertwined with the Snow Village is on loan from the Hilda United Methodist Church. While visiting the Museum, dont forget to look at the items for sale in the gift shop. Besides many historical books, there are items for sale by local artists. Also, there are Christmas ornaments for sale, some have been engraved by Spider Johnson.
