By. Mark Kayok A contingent from West Papua in Indonesia will not be participating in the 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture over the next two weeks. NBC News was reliably informed today that the West Papuans may have been banned from exposing their cultural heritage over political issues. Sources say their presence in Papua New Guinea would gain momentum from Melanesian countries including PNG to gain independence. The traditional dancers, contemporary music and arts groups will be replaced by another cultural group coming from a different region in Indonesia. NBC News was also unable to talk to their leaders today.
