By Mom Four weeks ago tonight, Cameron called Brittlyn and asked her to come over to pick up her birthday present early. Everyone home had a great time eating pizza and just hangn out. None of us had any idea how precious that moment was. It was just a few hours later that the police rang our doorbell - every parents nightmare. Four weeks. In some ways it feels like a life-time ago, and in some ways I think, How could we have walked through this for an entire FOUR WEEKS!? It feels like time has stopped... yet there are reminders everywhere that time just keeps marchn on. Yesterday the case manager told us our insurance was already wanting to pull Brittlyn from this level of care. After a few phone calls, and a gentle reminder that Brittlyn is non-weight bearing on her entire left side, they gave her another week. Whew! Thank you Lord. Today was another tough day for her. She gets pain meds every three hours as needed, and she has never NOT needed them more than 4 hours. When I got there, I could see she was in GREAT pain. It took me about 45 minutes to locate her nurse and find out if she was due for meds. I asked when her last meds were given and after looking it up, she told me at 4:00AM. !!!!! It was now 10:30AM. My mommy heart nearly exploded!! I turned and marched to the case managers office. When I found her all I could do was quiver out a weak statement, She hasnt had any pain meds since 4:00 this morning. She immediately called the nurse to find out what happened, then she and I spoke in her office. This just seems to keep happening to Brittlyn. We talked about a plan and she put in a message to speak to the Dr. looking for another way to word the orders for her meds., but by the time Brittlyn got the meds, she was so exhausted that she pretty much slept all afternoon - THROUGH her therapies. :( urgh. When she finally woke up, she was VERY agitated for quite awhile, BUT amazingly at 7:00pm a peace just came over her!! I am wondering... did someone pray for her at exactly 7pm CST tonight??? It sure felt like it!! And even if it wasnt at that exact time, I AM seeing God answer prayers... even through our human mistakes. There have been several caregivers for Brittlyn that have been precious to her and to our family. I have received several hugs from the nurses, aids, and techs just when I thought I might fall apart. We are not alone. We see His presence everywhere! God is so good, Hes so good to us!! By the way, I have been asked several times about the information we found out the other day concerning the accident. That is not information we are going to share, but please know, it has NOTHING to do with anything Brittlyn did or did not do. The sheriff believes Brittlyn swerved to miss an animal, and then over corrected the other way. It was just an accident that could have happened to anyone. Thanks again for your continued prayer and support!!
