By Safdar Chaudhary We have the option of getting intoxicated by life or feeling miserable and liable to addictions of entertainment and thus being numb. We read a lot but can we live in abundance without even reading a word. The Alchemist offers turning silver to gold and thus transforming our agonies to songs of life. In the midst of the healthcare crisis in our country, generating lively debates and fears, we at S’eclairer sing the song of hope and reawakening ancient wisdoms inherent in all traditions and cultures. We do not have to search far to find medical benefits of breaking bread together and living connected with communities. Our grandmothers and our elders knew this before we embarked on individualism and placing elders in nursing homes and getting worried about our own health insurances of various kinds. Among other factors the risk of heart attack is high among those who feel lonely. We often think that advances in medicine have to be a new drug, a new laser, or a surgical intervention to be powerful-something really high-tech and expensive. We often have a hard time believing that the simple choices that we make in our lives each day—what we eat, how we respond to stress, whether or not we smoke, how much we exercise and the quality of our relationships—can make such a powerful difference in our health, our well-being, and our survival, but they often do. STARTING A NEW PATH The New Year begins with this joyful magazine The Journal of Lifestyle Medicine offering to you local medical resources for living in health and hands on learning opportunities. I was trained to treat depression, PTSD, anxiety states, severe psychiatric disorders as well as many addictive disorders. After observing the burden of many lifestyle diseases, I have now embarked on providing lifestyle medical care. It is playful to live in wisdom of knowing the sciences of health—that changing lifestyle changes genes, down regulating (“turning off”) genes that promote cancer, heart disease, inflammation, and other illnesses. WE ARE ALL CONNECTED We are gathering the jewels of Healthcare Providers in this regions, whom you can access for integrative health care approaches to serious medical and psychiatric conditions. We collaborate and offer many workshops, health care groups, retreats and teaching sessions for chronic relapsing conditions such as, cancer prevention or aftercare, chronic pain, depression, bipolar disorders, ADHD, inflammatory conditions like arthritis, autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, GERD, eating disorders and other men and women’s health conditions. THE MAGICAL MYSTERIES OF LIFE A number of wonderful educational opportunities to help you be fully present to this mystery of healthcare alchemy are planned for this year. Consider giving yourself the gift of learning modern and ancient healthcare practices with leaders in health and healthcare sciences, who are revitalizing our communities. We hope to see you at S’eclairer or at one of our partners in health, for enjoying this mystery of alchemy—either individually or in a gathering.
