By Swamy Chaitanya Keerti We are in the middle of a very noisy political atmosphere. The 24x7 media coverage can get to our nerves and drive us crazy if we get swayed by it and forget ourselves. Our politicians are giving very passionate speeches and are debating furiously against each other. Vituperative attacks and plumbing the depths of indecency has become the order of the day. So much poison is being spewed that it is polluting our life on a very large scale. It can be really harmful to our mental peace and health. Now is the time to become even more alert to find our own centering within us, and not lose our awareness. If we lose our awareness, we will end up fighting with others as they are fighting with their opponents. So the first thing is to take everything around us not so seriously. Neither elections nor its results will lead to a big revolution in our lives. Some changes may happen after a month or two as and when the new government will be formed, but soon everything will be back to normal. Currently, politicians are knocking at our doors, asking for votes. After two months pass by, the equations will turn — we will be knocking at their doors and asking them to control rising prices and usher reforms. Now they pretend to be our servants, later they are going to be our masters. So it is best to take this whole phenomenon as a play, in spiritual terms, a leela and relax. Politicians are not mediators because they are not spiritual people. They may be religious because they are born in certain religions. Being born religious does not make them spiritual. To be spiritual means a life of meditation, while being religious means following certain code of conduct given by each religion. The Hindus are following the Hindu ways, the Muslims are following Islamic ways, same way people of other religions are following their religious ways, but politicians are following what brings them votes. They are pretending.
