By courtesy of Ricardo Ordorica, heres Joseph Samuelss orchestra performing Please (https://youtube/watch?v=sI14V_CMozwç) featuring Julius Berkin & probably Jules Levy Jr. on trumpets, Eph(raim) Hannaford (the uncle grandpa of Wendy Gardner & Craig Hannaford Hannaford) on trombone, Nathan Glantzs sappy alto & soprano saxes, an unknown man on tenor sax, Larry Brierss piano, John Calis romping rollicking banjo, August Christian Gus Helleberg or his brother John Pop Helleberg on tuba & Joe Greens drums among the personnel. Samuels recorded this side on June 12 from 1924 in New York & it went issued on Banner 1376 as Lucky Srike Dance Orchestra, Domino 355 as Gotham Dance Orchestra, NML 1095 as Manhattan Musicians, Paramount 20335 as the Paramount Dance Orchestra, Puritan 11335 as the Puritan Dance Orchestra, Mitchell 11392 as Steibers Orchestra, Triangle 11392 as Cinderella Ballroom Orchestra, Pennington 1392 as Cinderella Orchestra, canadian Apex as the Master Players & anglo-australian Austral A-81 with anonymous credit as Foxtrot. Johnson & Shirleys American Dance Bands on Record & Film reports that if Jules Levy Jr. is (indeed) present on this session, it must have been among his last, as he died on June 18 from 1924 (according to the Joseph Samuels chapter) or June 24 from 1924 (according to the Sam Lanin chapter also located at Johnson & Shirleys American Dance Bands on Record & Film) (through Mark Berresford said that Levy Jr. died on June 28 from 1924 & i think hes right). Hope youll like this side a lot!
