By invitation my first experience at soul cycle... Whether youre an athlete, renegade, warrior, Legend, or rock star.... Soul cycle will humble you! Game face check-Lights off check- Extreme heavy remakes of the 80s and 90s...let Billy Idol totally pump you up check!! White !!! everything is white... Instructor choreographed everything she said with the music...was pretty intense almost like a Broadway show... Rock of ages doesnt hold a candle to this... I was immediately a rock-star thrown onto a stage! This heart pounding, Soul-searching, Adrenaline filled room would probably not sit well with mad dog Athletics or Johnny G!! Started out as any spin class ...only with double pace... The interaction between soul cycle instructor Emily was almost like a one on one experience she didnt miss a beat ...a vigilant eye on everyone. Now for the part youve all been waiting for... (Is the human body meant to go through these motions and positions on the spin bike? ) Only having taken one class - like anything else its really about the instructor... Laying the foundation of what youre about to do and your expectations of whats going to happen next. And the ability to tactilely and verbally cue correctly. Besides the ordinary standing, climbing, my take away is that the music, the culture of the class, the team-building, the way everyone interacted together, I forget about how hard my heart was pumping.. Let alone the warrior you never knew was inside!!! Would I change the verbal cue when we started to do what looked like a press up from specially designed handlebar not looking like any other spin bike? Yes I wouldve had Everyones arms by the side to put tricep involvement better than thinking youre doing a Push up with handlebars...which could be quite ugly, and high risk.. Myself and a few others knew better so we did it the way that felt most comfortable... I remember several times the instructor saying to sit down cool down if your heart rates too high you cant breathe properly.. Of course I wouldnt listen to that and I kept going..I felt fine. There really is no oxygen in the room ...quite humid no airflow whatsoever - not even one fan! Cool how no one ever complaints... Has an extremely high ticket however I get it looking at the people in the class and the VIPs that create quite the following. There are Soul Beginners advanced soul cyclers in the class...all thirsty to be part of the Soul search cycle culture. Seems to me based on the way the instructor was laying the foundation everyone made it through just fine... Now we pick up the dumbbells that were attached to the bike...my friend Sly Stallone would be proud of the cross, uppercut and hook combo!! During the punch of course I noticed people that were hyper extending elbows popping their joints ---I get it but the instructor did mention about range of motion... However I dont think half the class understood what she was trying to say.. So what did I feel as I was spinning and punching in different directions? A definite increased lumbar curvature start to feel it in my back around the iliac crest.. My analysis is the seat has no play.. if the seat was a little spring-loaded .. tilted it would be able to move with your hip I think that would alleviate the problem totally!! Soul cycle left that part out... great handlebar design (for the most part) I do have one tweak for the bars...few other little changes to make it really shine!!! So risk-benefit ratio? You ask would I take the class again? of course! I have the education to do things, bio-mechanically correct without hurting my joints... Is this for anyone that has never taken a spin class? I would not suggest it.. For those who love to spin and spend...who want something on the total opposite side of the coin- I would say its a choice ...but I would recommend it, Like anything else be safe be careful, have fun, and above all precedence is listen to your body!! Dp.
