By now youve probably heard people spreading rumours about the Facebook mobile app being able to listen in to your conversations and basically spreading fear. The truth is its based on a misunderstanding of the technology, creating fear mongering. Heres the reality. The microphone listening can only be turned on through the app when youre on Facebook. It can also be turned off through the app. An icon shows its active. It filters out all voice and ambient noise to identify TV or Music programming to add what youre listening to to your post, if it can identify it. Heres another blow to the fear mongerers. You have to be posting a status update to use the voice listening feature. On top of that, its only available in the United States and will only work on the iOS and Android apps. It will not work through a browser. Users can also opt out altogether or turn it off or on a post-by-post basis. So no need to delete your Facebook app...unless youre tired of it anyways. :)
