Byun Baek-hyun (Korean: 변백현; Hanja: 邊伯賢), more often credited as simply Baekhyun, is the lead vocalist of Exo-K.[8] Born on May 6, 1992 (age 21) in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, Byun has one older brother, Byun Baek-beom,[citation needed] who is seven years his senior.[3] A former pupil of Jungwon High School, Byun was a member of the schools band and attended numerous musical festivals, later winning an award at a local rock festival prior to joining S.M. Entertainment in 2011 through the S.M. Casting System.[9] Byun was studying for his college musical entrance exams when he joined the label.[4] Byun was the last member to join Exo,[3] and was revealed as the groups ninth member on January 30, 2012.[10] Byun has cited Rain as one of his main influences and hopes to emulate Rains well-rounded success.[9]
