Báthory András/Endre, Prince-Bishop of Warmia, Prince of Transylvania Báthory András was a nephew of King Stephen Báthory of Poland and thus upon King Stephans death in 1586, was a candidate for the Polish Throne. In 1598, his cousin Sigismund, Prince of Transylvania, abdicated in favour of Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II, but Sigismund reconsidered and declared András as his successor. Aside from being Prince-Bishop of Warmia and Prince of Transylvania, András was also a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, and Grand Master of the Order of the Dragon.
