From The Coaches Corner: As a basketball official who does some college games but mostly high school, AAU, NJB, and Recreation Leagues, I see a lot of basketball, and a lot of basketball programs throughout Southern Cali, Arizona, and Nevada. And for the most part we as a country are not teaching our children the right way to play. And if you think I am lying why are colleges and professional teams recruiting and courting foreign basketball players? Do you know there are teenagers who don’t know what a pivot foot is? But ask them about a crossover dribble, or to dunk a ball, or shoot a 3-point shot, and those same teenagers can quote you chapter and verse. What about the in-between game asked the coach, man I don’t need to shoot no short jumpers when I can dunk on someone’s head says the player. Kobe Bryant can dunk, and Kobe Bryant can shoot 3’s, and Kobe Bryant got the in-between game, so if you want to be like Kobe Bryant you got to train, practice the right stuff, and put yourself in as many competitive situations as possible. Nuff Said!!!
