CALL FOR ACTION PLEASE HELP STRAY CATS IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN IF THIS BILL PASSES, SO MANY MORE CATS WILL BE EUTHANIZED! The Michigan Pet Fund Alliance opposes HB 5095 in its current form. The provisions of concern relate to homeless animal shelters. Of utmost concern is the provision reducing the required hold time for unidentified lost cats. The current hold time is 4 days and the bill proposes only 2 days, drastically reducing the time an owner is able to reunite with their lost cat and subjecting the cat to death in many shelters before an owner can locate their pet. Current law requires unidentified cats and dogs to be held for 4 days. The bill proposes 4 days for dogs and only 2 days for cats, treating cats as second class pets. The bill also eliminates the reporting of several annual statistics, reducing the publics ability to measure performance of not-for-profit and government homeless animals shelters. Calls and emails are needed on June 2 to the House Regulatory Reform Committee members, who will be hearing arguments on the bill Tuesday June 3 at 9 a.m. See the bill and its status here. Ask them to revise the bill to protect shelter pets as well as puppy mill animals.
