CALL FOR CURRICULA Position title Emergency Health Assistant Duty station Khartoum, Sudan Classification Special, three months with possibility of extension Grade UG Estimated Start Date As soon as possible Closing Date September 07, 2014 Reference Code: CFCV2014/01(N) Context: Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission in Sudan, and the direct supervision of the Emergency Health Specialist, the successful candidate will be responsible for Assisting in conducting rapid health assessments, planning, coordinating, implementing and monitoring Emergency Health Interventions. In particular She/he will be responsible for: Core Functions / Responsibilities: 1. Assist in conducting Rapid Health Assessments (RHAs), including epidemiological surveys, in order to identify groups most at risk, determine risk factors, ascertain essential health information, determine nutritional status, calculate morbidity and mortality base-lines, assess environmental conditions, and identify resources available (including laboratory) and conduct nutritional surveys. 2. Help in planning and designing emergency health interventions at Primary, Secondary or Tertiary level as required, with the emphasis on Primary and Community Health, particularly Mother & Child Health (MCH). 3. Support the emergency health specialist implementing IOM Sudan’s overall Emergency migration health programmes in close coordination with other Programme Units in IOM Sudan. 4. Support community-based primary health services, and devise appropriate organizational and coordination mechanisms with health professionals within these services. 5. Assist in promotion of basic health education by training and supporting local community health workers to assist in surveillance and educational aspects of emergency health interventions. 6. Ensure compliance with WHO protocols and principles of medical ethics, and SPHERE technical standards. 7. Support local Health Information Systems (HIS). 8. Assist in development of a health sector proposals for funding Provide public health oversight of IOMs interventions. 9. Assist in development of a strategies and approaches on public health and migration. 10. Provide regular internal reporting. 11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned. Desirable Qualifications and Experience a) University degree in medicine (MBBS); b) Minimum combined five years of experience; c) Experience in implementing emergency public health response in complex environments, preferably in Africa. Additional experience in health systems highly desirable. d) Previous experience in health sector management in emergency settings. Languages Thorough knowledge of English and Arabic,.
