CALL FOR ENTRY: 16th Annual Juried Exhibition: DRAWING 2015 ENTRY DEADLINE Friday, January 23, 2015, 5:00 pm. apply on line here: ABOUT THE EXHIBITION This annual juried exhibition showcases drawings by contemporary Canadian artists. For this exhibition, a drawing is defined as an art form used to either draft ideas that are further developed in other media or to create a finished work of art. This broad definition is intended to open the exhibition to entries reflecting a wide variety of contemporary drawing techniques and practices. AWARDS The jurors will assign cash awards: First Prize, $300; Second Prize, $200; Third Prize, $100. Gift certificates from sponsors may also be awarded. HOW TO ENTER Artists may submit images of up to two works. All entries must be submitted in digital jpg format. Detail images can be submitted. Each jpeg must be no more than 1.5 MB in size, and labeled as follows: Last Name, First Name, Title, Size (Height x Width), Date.jpg (ie: Smith, John, Its a Drawing, 8.5 x 11 cm, 2014.jpg). Submit only original drawings created by the entrant and not previously shown at the John B. Aird Gallery. There are no size limitations. Accepted works must be framed (exceptions will be made for oversize work), fitted with hanging devices, and clearly labeled on the back with the name of the artist, title, medium, size, and date of production. The Gallery Director can choose not to hang any work which does not conform to entry rules or was not clearly represented on the submission. UPLOAD ENTRY MATERIALS via our web site. Please note that you must download the entry form, fill it out and upload it with your images and bio in a compressed zip folder. To use this option you must also be able to pay the $30 entry fee via on-line banking using an Interac e-transfer. or Mail or hand-deliver your entry with jpegs on a CD to: John B. KEY DATES ENTRY FORM DEADLINE Entry forms with digital images (jpegs) are due Friday, January 23, 2015 by 5: p.m. JURYING Jurying will take place the week of January 26, 2015 NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS Artists will be notified of the jurors’ decisions by email by Friday, January 30, 2015 DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORKS Accepted artworks to be delivered to the Gallery on Sunday, February 8, between 10 am and noon EXHIBITION DATES Tuesday, February 10 to Friday, March 6, 2015 OPENING RECEPTION Thursday, February 12, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. PICK-UP OF ARTWORKS Saturday, March 7, between 10 am and noon ENTRY DEADLINE Friday, January 23, 2015, 5:00 pm ENTRY FEE The entry fee is $30. This fee covers entry of two works per artist, is non-refundable and must be mailed with the entry form or sent via on-line banking (see above). JURYING Jurying will take place the week of January 26, 2015 JURORS Michael Hansen MFA; Melanie Lowe MFA NOTIFICATION OF JURY RESULTS Artists will be notified of the jurors’ decisions by email by Friday, January 30, 2015 DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORKS Accepted work(s) must be delivered to the John B. Aird Gallery, 900 Bay Street, Toronto, on Sunday, February 10, between 10 am and noon. Alternate delivery arrangements may be considered for artists living outside the 416 / 905 region EXHIBITION DATES & RECEPTION The exhibition will be on view February 10 - March 6, 2015. An opening reception and awards presentation will be held Thursday, February 12, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. PICK-UP OF WORK AT END OF EXHIBITION Participating artists must pick-up their works on Saturday, March 7, between 10:00 a.m. and noon SALES Artists will be informed of sales inquiries and must forward the gallery a 30% commission on all sales INSURANCE Works in the exhibition are insured at the retail price less 30%. Claims may be subject to an appraisal to determine the market value of the work. In the case of a single claim, artists are responsible for the payment of a $1,000 deductible. In the case of a group claim, (made on behalf of two or more artists), this $1,000 deductible will be averaged among the claimants. ABOUT THE JOHN B. AIRD GALLERY The John B. Aird Gallery, formerly the Macdonald Gallery was reopened in May of 1985 as a result of an agreement concluded between the Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs on behalf of the Government of Ontario and six visual arts organizations, namely: Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour, Ontario Crafts Council, Ontario Society of Artists, Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, Society of Canadian Artists, and Sculptors Society of Canada. The mission of the Gallery is to foster awareness and enjoyment of artworks by contemporary professional artists. The Gallery endeavours to recognize, encourage and nurture excellence in the visual arts.
