CALLING ALL WESTFIELD THEATRE PARENTS!! Wed like to invite you to join us once again as we attend the Westfield Board of Educations upcoming budget planning public hearing on Tuesday, March 11th. The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room ( Room 105) of The Administration Building, 302 Elm Street. At this hearing, the Finance Committee will be taking public comments for consideration in the budget planning process for the 2014-2015 school year. We encourage all parents of students involved in Westfields Theatre Arts programs to represent our theatre programs and our children. We specifically need some EIS parents and we need to continue with the RIS/WHS parents. The board was asking about EIS at the last meeting. It will keep a focus on all three auditoriums and give us the opportunity to keep the board accountable as we were asked. Dr. Dolan and the board took notice that we were there as a united group. We had a positive and friendly reception by all at the meeting last week and the Board of Ed was thankful that we brought this to their attention! I know that we are all a bit overwhelmed during this SUPER crazy time with all the shows. However, this is the timing for the next years budget process. It would GREAT to have some other faces there. The board and Dr. Dolan notice that we are a group of parents in the audience. Not everyone has to speak, but being there as a group speaks volumes!! For those of you who were unable to attend last week, this is a recap: In this meeting we asked the Board to increase funding to our Drama and Theatre Departments. We feel that the entire experience of attending a WHS production should be reflective of the time and effort the staff and students have poured into their shows. Specifically, were asked the Board for: The funds to hire a sound professional to provide technical oversight of the sound on both the fall and spring productions In the past, sound has been handled by the TV Studio teacher. The current teacher is not contracted to fill this need. The cost would be approximately $2,000 per show. The purchase of a curtain or other coverage for the front of the apron of the stage. The front of the stage is currently skirted from end-to-end by a black plastic table cloth, affixed with masking tape. Repairs and improvements to the lobby. Unfortunately, the lobby has been damaged by years of use by many organizations. Though it is always communicated to anyone using the space that there is to be no tape or tacks/nails used to hang items from the walls, the paneling is showing signs of wear and tear. Wed like to have the current paneling repaired or replaced with a more durable surface. Also, the Westfield Theatre Department has earned many awards over the past few years, and the existing shelving and lighting within that display cabinet need improvement so that the space may be used to showcase those awards. Hope to see you at the hearing! -- The Westfield Theatre Guild Board of Directors Amy Flax &Terese Guerriero, Co-Presidents Kristine Zimmerman, Vice President Colleen Echausse, Treasurer Erin Mone, Recording Secretary Debbie Hirsch-Boyle, Corresponding Secretary Lauren Echausse, Student Liaison Ann Cary Advisor/Co-Founder
