CAMERA OF THE WEEK #26 2013 June 24-30 KONICA AUTOREFLEX T I bought this camera in used condition in the early 1970s. The 100 mm lens used this week followed the body and soon became a very dear tool. Konica T was the worlds first focal plane shutter 35 mm Single-Lens-Reflex with auto-exposure and Through-The-Lens metering combined with shutter-priority auto exposure. The batteries (the now non-available mercury cells) were only needed for the CdS light meter, but I nowadays use a hand held light meter. The shutter speed range is 1s to 1/1000s and B, and is an up-and-down running metal focal plane type. This Konica model is the camera that planted Konica firmly on the SLR map, not longer so much shouting of KoMica. This was a solid body, refined with full manual or EE auto exposure. Lenses were the legendary Hexanon glass. Konica had its own distinct bayonet mount system, and some Hexanon lenses were even processed with a LTM bayonet for Leica. My actual lens this week was the Konica Hexanon AR 100 mm f:2.8. It has a very good image quality. It renders razor-sharp images with high contrast and a good color rendition, no barell or pincushion distortion are visible. Construction is 5 elements in 4 groups. It is very compact and quite lightweight, therefore a good choice for traveling. The pictures are shot at my secret spot in the woods where my family has a refuge cabin far from a busy life. The film used is Tudor 200 - (a rebranded Fuji emulsion). When using this body today I much dislike the heavy sound of the shutter, it resembles much the clicks from dry-shooting a pistol. So not a dream when used in sensitive areas.
