CAMPUS JOURNALISM AND FAIRNESS: a short text by Teslim Ogundiran Teslim. Some days ago, the President of the Union of Campus Journalist in the person of Kayode Folayemi posted something on this page and mistakenly decided not put my name on the list of aspirants to expect at the Presidential Debate happening in about one hour time. I didnt see any need to react cause I thought it was a mistake. Well I received invite for the debate some days ago and even yesterday, I received a text from the Debate Committee Chairman and it read thus: Dear aspirant...this is a reminder that your presidential debate holds tmr at 11am. You r required to prepare a mini manifesto which you would present. Also the committee requires that ur typewritten citation get to her before the end of today. Thanks I immediately typed and sent my citation to Ogunkunle Emmanuel, a member of the committee. However, some few minute ago, I received another text message from the Debate Committee chairman and it read: Dear aspirant ...having heard from the electoral committee, it is pertinent that we inform u that unless you have proof your disqualification has been rescinded, you shall not be allowed to debate today at the session...thanks for your cooperation And this was my reply; Dear Press man, it is pertinent to note that the electoral committee should show you proof of my disqualification and not the other way round. It is trite a principle of law that one that assert must prove. Thank you. I expect you to know this. May I state clearly and unambiguously that it is not my duty to prove if I have been disqualified or not. It is duty of the electoral committee to prove that I have been disqualified and give valid and cogent reasons to that effect. Thus I will be at the Presidential Debate. I expect the UCJ to be fair in it dealings. Let Justice be done, though the heaven falls.
