CANADA NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR GOVT DELEGATION ON TOUR TO FRANCE TO RECRUIT SKILLED WORKERS TO MEET GROWING DEMAND FOR SKILLED LABOR AND ATTENDING JOB FAIR FROM 18 TO 20 NOVEMBER 2014 The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills, is attending Destination Canada 2014 in Paris, France, today to help attract skilled workers in order to meet the province’s growing demand for skilled labour. The job fair takes place at Espace Charenton from November 18 to 20. “It is exciting to experience the growth and diversification of the provincial economy. Accompanying this growth is increased demand for skilled labour in various industries. Job fairs, such as the Destination Canada event taking place today in France, are excellent opportunities for us to showcase Newfoundland and Labrador to potential employees as an ideal place to work, live and raise a family.” - The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Destination Canada is hosted by the Embassy of Canada in France with support from Citizenship and Immigration Canada and in partnership with public agencies for employment and international mobility. “It is always our top priority to employ Newfoundlanders and Labradorians first, but that is not always possible. Therefore, it is important that we recruit skilled workers in other countries to relocate to this province. Our Provincial Nominee Program has recently been increased from 300 to 500 nominations and the Federal Government’s new Express Entry immigration model will give this province an additional 550 nominations beyond that total. As a result of these programs, our province’s overall nomination quota for 2015 will be 1,050 – a 250 per cent increase compared to our 2014 quota.” - Minister O’Brien Minister O’Brien and a delegation from the Department of Advanced Education and Skills will join other Canadian provinces and territories and employers at the job fair to offer employment in a wide variety of fields, including skilled trades, engineering, health care, education and hospitality.
