Today in New Jersey - IMPORTANT Animal Welfare Vote On November 18th The state Senate will attempt to override Gov. Chris Christies veto of a bill that would Ban the farm practice of keeping pregnant pigs in Gestation Crates. Bill S1921 passed the state Assembly with a vote of 60-5 and the state Senate 29-4 in the Spring but Governor Christie Vetoed the Bill in June. Nine states have already passed legislation banning Gestation Crates and companies like McDonald’s, Costco, Safeway, Kroger, and Oscar Mayer have announced plans to eliminate them. Media mogul and Nutley native Martha Stewart wrote a letter to state lawmakers in September. “This is torture and we shouldn’t permit it to be inflicted on anyone, especially animals who have done nothing to deserve such callous punishment.
