CAPTAIN PAUL WATSON~ Paul Watson Ady Gil Demands $50 Million - TopicsExpress

CAPTAIN PAUL WATSON~ Paul Watson Ady Gil Demands $50 Million dollars from Sea Shepherd Ady Gil and Pete Bethune are now suing Sea Shepherd and myself for $50 million dollars. They want $5 million to replace the Ady Gil and $45 million for punitive damages. Their case is that the Ady Gil was lost due to negligence. Their evidence is that the New Zealand investigation found Pete Bethune 50% guilty of negligence. Therefore Sea Shepherd is responsible because we allowed Pete Bethune to be the Captain of the vessel that Ady Gil owned. This despite the fact that Ady Gil insisted on Pete Bethune being the captain. Ady Gil is also claiming that Sea Shepherd should have abandoned the chase of the Nisshin Maru and towed the Ady Gil back to New Zealand claiming it was salvageable. The Bob Barker did tow the Ady Gil for 35 hours breaking numerous tow lines in the process and not making much headway and New Zealand was 1800 miles away through the roughest seas on the planet. This must be the first ever case of a plaintiff (Bethune) claiming negligence based on his own negligence. Ady Gil recently said that he was dedicated to destroying Sea Shepherd and believes that the legal costs will cause Sea Shepherd significant damage. He is going to be disappointed there because Sea Shepherd has legal insurance to cover the litigation costs. He is also going to have a hard time serving myself since I am not accessible, at least not to him. Ady Gil is also upset with Mercy for Animals and Farm Sanctuary for not showing enough "appreciation" for his support. I wonder if he intends to sue them also for not trumpeting his accolades as the "champion of the animals." He is also claiming that Sea Shepherd has not saved a single whale. But he is proud of the nice Grind knife the whalers gave him in the Faeroe Islands when he sat down to dine with them. He claims he never ate any of the whale meat although some claim he did, but the very fact he ate at the same table with whalers dining on whale meat as the whalers claim, suggests to me that Ady Gil is no friend of the whales.
