CARIBBEAN MUSIC NEWS July 5, 2013 In Guyana Dancehall artist Konshens will be the headline act when Jamzone Regional Night is staged at the Guyana National Stadium on August 16. Others slated to perform at the event are Onyan and Burning Flames, Busy Signal, and Ravi B. The local cast will include Timeka Marshall, Jory Hector and a few others. GUYANA All roads will lead to the small East Bank Village, Coverden for one of the hottest shows to ever hit the community when Black Stone Music System hosts its 18th Anniversary Show at the new and improved Island View Resort. The show is slated for Sunday evening and will feature reigning Carib Soca Monarch, Jumo ‘Rubber Waist’ Primo and upcoming artiste, Jory Hector. The show is expected to be really hyped with a lot of energy since both artistes are known for their high energy performances. BARBADOS MUSICAL MEGASTAR RIHANNA is to give another concert in Barbados. This time it’s a privately produced event slated for November 2 this year, according to Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy. The minister told reporters that the event would not be produced by the Government-owned Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) but by international concert promoters Live Nation Entertainment. Rihanna’s huge homecoming concert was held two years ago on August 5 at Kensington Oval. Barbados is also currently in the midst of cropover which begins late May and culminates with Grand Kadooment on August 5th which is quite similar to the NYC West Indian American Day carnival. Unfortunately for cropover fans this year, Gabby will not be a part of the regular line-up of First Citizens/Digicel De Big Show this Crop-Over season. The nine time monarch has always set high standards for himself and decided that this year he was not quite ready. TRINIDAD There’s a brand new act on the soca scene in Trinidad and it is sizzling hot. Oscar B & Vibes had its launch last Friday evening at the panyard of Carib Woodbrook Playboyz in Newtown. Led by Tobago-born vocalist Oscar Benjamin, the aggregation made a good first impression, cheered on by guests and well wishers. Oscar B, the former lead vocalist of Byron Lee and The Dragonaires, received congrats from SEVERAL OF his “brothers” in song. JAMAICA NOW that his contract with record label Uplifting Music has expired, singer Terry Linen is working on a new album for the Jamaican market. Terry Linen, whose real name is Kiplin Simpson, says his association with Uplifting music had its challenges which resulted in a violation of contract causing him to wait for almost three years to begin recording again. Linen’s career started in 1993 with his debut single The Rainbow Never Touched the Ground. It was not until 1999 that he got the breakthrough with a cover of Whitney Houston’s My Love is Your Love.
