CATTLE RUSTLERS STRIKES KAPEDO Via #STD Tension remains high at the border of Turkana and Baringo counties following a daring cattle raid staged by suspected Turkana raiders, in which one person was killed. The armed raiders, taking the advantage of the ongoing operation in Silale area, struck Ngaungauyan village in Kapedo East before shooting dead Kasotot Chepaiwiat and allegedly making away with several herds of cattle. According to Silale MCA Nelson Lotela, the unknown number of attackers overpowered Pokot herders and escaped with 346 goats towards Turkana East. He said the incident took place less than 3km from Chesitet Military camp but the officers did not respond to villagers distress calls. We cannot comprehend how heavily armed raiders attacked yet thousands of KDF soldiers and police officers are on the ground disarming residents, said Lotela. Baringo County commissioner Peter Okwanyo confirmed the raid saying a Pokot herder lost his life during the Tuesday evening attack but claimed all the stolen animals were returned and handed over to the owners. It true the raid occurred but security officers on the ground managed to repulsed the cattle rustlers. The situation is under control and residents should avoid engaging in revenge attacks. They should leave it to security personnel, he appeled. Shocked residents have fled the scene of the attack and are currently camping at Chesamu area.
