CAULOPHYLLUM THALICTROIDES : (blue cohosh; berberidaceae) INTRODUCTION : the root of the plant is taken for medicine preparation. The medicine is especially a female remedy. Its main action is on female genitalia and also in rheumatism. PROVER : The only prover of this drug is Dr. Burt. The majority of indications was derived from clinical experience. CAUSATIONS : Fright; Miscarriage MENTAL GENERALS : Fretful, weak memory, irritable, apprehension. IN LABOUR : Caulophyllum, is a medicine par excellence in strengthening uterine muscles which can help the process of labor. It is not the only medicine prescribed for this condition, though it is the most commonly given remedy. Generally, the 3, 6, 12, 30 or 200 potency is given if the womans labor is progressing slowly and if the woman has an undilated cervix which may be spasmodically rigid and with feeble contractions. Caulophyllum is also indicated if the contractions are irregular or if theres atony (weakness) of the uterus during labor. Dr. Jacques Imberechts half-jokingly says, When it seems like labor is beginning, you should call the taxi and then take Caulophyllum. If you take the medicine before you call the taxi, youre likely to have that baby in the taxi. Dr. E.B Nash says : I have given this remedy in long continued passive haemorrhage from the uterus after after miscarriage when I had the characteristic weakness and sense of internal trembling. IN RHEUMATISM : Mainly the small joints are affected especially fingers, toes etc. The pain is of drawing and tearing type and wandering in nature. The extremities are stiff and sensitive, which makes the patient irritable, apprehensive. The complaints are worse in open air. IN LEUCORRHOEA : It is usually given in little girls who complain of acrid and exhausting leucorrhoea, resulting from congestion of the uterus, associated with bearing down pain with spots on forehead, ptosis of upper eyelids. The eyelids are heavy and should be raised with the fingers. POTENCIES : In place of uterine atony, in low potencies although all potencies may be used while Nash is believer of high potencies.
