CBS Sports: Norvell Out At OU Oklahoma went from a preseason - TopicsExpress

CBS Sports: Norvell Out At OU Oklahoma went from a preseason darling, picked by many to be one of the four teams to play in the first College Football Playoff, to a team that finished the 2014 season 8-5. When that happens heads tend to roll, and it seems the first head belongs to co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell. Fox Sports Bruce Feldman reports that the Sooners have fired Norvell. His report was confirmed by The Oklahomans Jason Kersey. Norvell had been a member of the Oklahoma staff since 2008. In his first three seasons he served as an assistant offensive coordinator coach before having his title changed to co-offensive coordinator in 2010. He also served as the teams wide receivers coach throughout his tenure. Oklahoma actually improved its offensive output from 32.8 points per game in 2013 to 36.4 points per game this season, but the offense has still taken a small step back from prior seasons. From 2010 to 2012 the offense averaged 38.3 points per game. Still, theres a good chance that this move isnt being made because of performance as much as it is the pressure on Stoops to make changes. And as Kersey mentioned in his report, there could be more changes to the staff yet to come.
